Wrap Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WRAP) has announced that the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) has purchased BolaWrap devices and Non-Lethal Response training as part of its initial deployment of non-lethal capabilities for campus safety and security. This deployment is intended to support responsible, measured response by providing officers with an additional non-lethal tool designed to help reduce escalation and create opportunities for safer resolutions, according to the company.
The UMBC deployment advances Wrap Technologies' strategy to expand adoption of its public safety portfolio beyond traditional municipal law enforcement into markets including higher education, healthcare, transportation, critical infrastructure, and security. The company noted its broader Non-Lethal Response ecosystem also includes Wrap Reality, WrapTactics, WrapVision, and other public safety technologies.
The BolaWrap 150 device, which is used by over 1,000 agencies across the U.S. and in 60 countries, incorporates a multi-sensory distraction of sight and sound as a first response, followed by a non-lethal restraint if further escalation is required. This approach reduces the risk of injury to officers, subjects, and the community. The device is not pain-based compliance; it does not shoot, strike, shock, or incapacitate, instead helping officers strategically operate pre-escalation on the force continuum. Training for the device is certified by the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).
The expansion into higher education comes amid growing demand for non-lethal tools and techniques to create time, distance, and tactical advantage in non-criminal calls. Wrap Technologies' complete public safety portfolio also includes the Wrap Reality immersive training platform, WrapVision body-worn camera system, WrapTactics training programs, and next-generation C-UAS solutions like PAN-DA and the 1KC Kinetic Anti-Drone Cassette. WrapVision, powered by IONODES, features streamlined cloud integration and final North American assembly, with a made-in-America roadmap projected for early 2026 to ensure data integrity and address concerns over unauthorized access or foreign surveillance risks.
This deployment with UMBC is part of a broader strategy to address complex, modern day challenges facing public safety organizations. For more information, visit the company’s newsroom at https://ibn.fm/WRAP. The full press release is available at https://ibn.fm/YjUSY.
