Western Star Resources Inc. (CSE: WSR) (OTC: WSRIF) (FRA: 4K2) has rapidly transformed from a junior explorer into a focused U.S. tungsten developer. Since late 2025, the company has assembled a portfolio of three past-producing tungsten assets across Nevada and New Mexico, initiated modern exploration, and positioned itself for a pivotal drilling phase in 2026. The strategic emphasis is on advancing these assets toward resource definition, with the Eagle Point project in New Mexico as the primary near-term target.
Eagle Point stands out due to its historical production of approximately 1,800 tons of scheelite-bearing material, historical U.S. Government estimates of 100,000 to 200,000 tons grading around 0.5% WO3, and modern USGS sampling that returned up to 27.6% WO3. The project features eight historically mapped skarn bodies, yet has seen very limited drilling. A U.S. Government-supported exploration program, including underground development and diamond drilling, was planned in the 1950s but never executed. Western Star intends to rectify that, with a maiden drill program targeted for 2026, subject to permitting and other customary considerations.
The company's strategy is twofold: first, to test the historically identified mineralized zones with modern geological and analytical methods to potentially support a maiden NI 43-101 mineral resource estimate; second, to explore extensions along strike and at depth, as well as evaluate additional targets generated through modern geophysics, mapping, and geochemistry. This approach aims to validate the historical geological model and expand the known mineralization footprint.
Blake Morgan, President and CEO, emphasized the significance of Eagle Point: "Eagle Point is an important opportunity because we are not starting from first principles. The project has historical production, historical U.S. Government exploration, multiple skarn bodies exposed at surface, historical estimates of tungsten-bearing material, and modern USGS sampling that returned up to 27.6% WO3. Our goal is to bring modern exploration standards to that historical opportunity."
Beyond Eagle Point, Western Star's Nevada assets—Rowland and White Star—are also advancing. Rowland has been expanded by approximately 170%, and first-phase exploration identified a one-kilometre tungsten-skarn geochemical corridor with peak soil results of approximately 1,425 ppm WO3. White Star, acquired adjacent to Rowland, creates a six-kilometre prospective exploration corridor. The company has completed high-resolution UAV magnetic surveys and extensive surface exploration at these projects, and drill permitting is underway at Rowland.
The company has also strengthened its financial position, closing an oversubscribed private placement of approximately C$3.69 million, and has engaged Dahrouge Geological Consulting to assist with technical evaluation and exploration planning. Additionally, Western Star has applied to a U.S. Defense Industrial Base Consortium solicitation, aligning with national priorities for secure critical mineral supplies.
In less than a year, Western Star has moved from asset acquisition to drilling preparation. The next phase is execution, with the goal of discovering and defining meaningful domestic tungsten resources. This progress is significant not only for the company but also for North America's critical minerals supply chain, which relies heavily on imports for tungsten. The outcomes of the 2026 drilling programs at Rowland and Eagle Point will be closely watched, as they could establish Western Star as a key player in the U.S. tungsten sector.
As with all exploration, there is no guarantee that current or future programs will result in the definition of a mineral resource or an economically viable deposit. However, Western Star's disciplined approach, combined with the historical promise of its assets, positions the company to potentially contribute to a secure domestic tungsten supply. The company's progress underscores a broader trend of renewed interest in critical minerals within the United States, driven by supply chain vulnerabilities and strategic defense needs.
