Vinhomes Green Paradise Achieves Interim ISO 37122 Smart City Certification, Setting Global Precedent

The World Council on City Data (WCCD) has officially awarded Vinhomes Green Paradise - Can Gio the Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification, a milestone that sets a new global precedent for greenfield urban developments. This recognition, announced on August 5, 2026, underscores the project's alignment with international standards for smart, sustainable city development, and its progress toward becoming Vietnam's first mega urban development to achieve full smart city certification.

The certification follows a comprehensive assessment based on a customized indicators framework developed by WCCD specifically for greenfield projects, incorporating the core principles of ISO 37122, one of the world's most respected standards for measuring smart city performance. WCCD President and CEO Dr. Patricia McCarney highlighted the significance: "This certification recognizes Vinhomes' long-term vision and commitment to developing a smart, sustainable, and future-ready urban model. It provides a powerful baseline of data to propel success, ensuring full ISO 37122 certification once operations commence."

This milestone is part of a strategic partnership launched in March 2026 among Vinhomes, WCCD, Standardized Urban Metrics (SUM), and Korea Management Association Consultants (KMAC). The collaboration aims to refine criteria for a comprehensive smart city model, with the interim certification serving as the first major step toward full certification upon operational start. Mr. Chulse Oh, Head of AX Group at KMAC, noted: "This award marks an important milestone in realizing the vision of a world-class smart city in Vietnam. KMAC will continue supporting the project in developing smart city solutions and implementation strategies."

Vinhomes Green Paradise benefits from a unique geographical setting, overlooking the Can Gio Sea and adjacent to the UNESCO-recognized Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, which spans over 75,000 hectares. The development covers 2,870 hectares with a construction density of only 16%, and is pioneering an enhanced ESG++ model structured around five pillars: Environment, Social, Governance, Regeneration, and Climate Adaptation. Upon full operation, the project aims to utilize 100% clean electricity from renewable sources and achieve 100% net-zero emission transportation, aligning with Ho Chi Minh City's climate adaptation strategy.

To support these efforts, a Forest Regeneration and Climate Adaptation Fund will be established to finance research, restoration, and long-term resilience initiatives, with a key focus on regenerating the Can Gio mangrove ecosystem. This commitment has also made Vinhomes Green Paradise the first Official Participant in the "7 Wonders of the Future Cities" campaign initiated by New7Wonders.

The award of the WCCD Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification reinforces Vinhomes Green Paradise's pioneering vision in advancing a smart and sustainable urban model that meets international standards. It positions the project as a benchmark future city for the region and the world, demonstrating how greenfield developments can integrate data-driven governance, infrastructure innovation, and environmental stewardship from the outset. As Dr. McCarney emphasized, this is a "global first," setting a new precedent for cities worldwide to follow.
