Vinchin has announced the release of Backup & Recovery V9.0, a significant update focused on smarter, faster, and more dependable backup and recovery solutions. The new version introduces several key features aimed at improving data security, recovery reliability, and cross-platform migration.
Among the most notable additions is support for Kubernetes environments. Vinchin 9.0 now provides reliable backup for container workloads using the native CSI interface to snapshot PVC persistent volumes, ensuring backup consistency with minimal impact on production. Administrators can backup and restore at the cluster, namespace, application, or PVC level, and the system automatically detects applications to add new workloads to backup tasks.
Security enhancements include integration with Kaspersky antivirus to automatically scan backups for viruses and remove threats before restore, preventing the recovery of infected systems. Additionally, a new backup data integrity check generates a unique checksum during backup completion and verifies it before storage operations or restores, blocking corrupted backups and notifying administrators. WORM (Write Once, Read Many) support is also added, preventing backup files from being altered or deleted for a defined retention period, aiding regulatory compliance.
Disaster recovery capabilities are bolstered with an emergency takeover feature in the built-in DR lab. When production systems fail, administrators can spin up recovered VMs and physical servers inside the DR lab to resume critical services without environment deployment. Instant recovery now supports direct failover into the DR lab, and combined with post-recovery scripts, it automates basic service checks.
Any-to-any migration is a new capability, expanding from previous V2V support to include V2V, P2V, C2C, and C2V migrations. The process automates disk format conversion and configuration mapping, and Vinchin includes a library of 200+ built-in drivers with the option to add custom ones, simplifying heterogeneous migrations.
Other enhancements include clustered backup deployments for high availability, a multi-level retry strategy for task resilience, and separation of CDP and replication for independent operation. VMware backup performance is improved with source-side compression, optimized scanning, and VM filtering. Oracle backup workflows gain efficiency with skip bad datafile blocks, multi-segment transfer, custom RMAN commands, and parallel backup tasks. Granular recovery now allows pushing recovered files directly to specified workloads or network shares.
Vinchin Backup & Recovery 9.0 delivers stronger protection, smoother migration, and faster recovery for modern IT environments. The release reduces risk with new security and integrity controls, increases availability with cluster and retry enhancements, and shrinks backup windows with database and virtualization optimizations. For organizations managing backups, disaster recovery, or system migration, this release makes operations safer and simpler. More information and a free trial are available at Vinchin's website.
