New research from Velo, the leading nicotine pouch brand in Europe, underscores a growing societal challenge: building meaningful connections is becoming harder with age. The study, conducted across five countries, found that nearly two in five adults (39%) struggle to form deep bonds, citing difficulties in finding like-minded individuals (28%), social awkwardness (27%), fear of rejection (24%), and fear of judgment (21%). In response, Velo has launched 'Echoes of Tomorrowland,' a global initiative that combines live events and synchronized livestreams to bring the communal spirit of the Tomorrowland festival to fans worldwide.
The campaign is rooted in the belief that music, particularly the dancefloor, serves as a powerful catalyst for connection. According to the research, 30% of respondents feel most authentic on the dancefloor, where they can 'dance like nobody's watching,' and 61% feel more comfortable expressing themselves when they see others doing the same. This environment fosters genuine connections, with 27% of 25-35 year olds saying friendships made at live music events are more authentic than those formed elsewhere. Velo's initiative aims to replicate this magic beyond the festival grounds.
The campaign kicked off with a social experiment at the Tomorrowland Store in Ibiza on July 17, where guests received half of a physical butterfly and were challenged to find the matching half held by a stranger. This interactive icebreaker turned a room of strangers into an engaged community. The event, headlined by Ukrainian DJ Korolova, featured a livestream from Tomorrowland's mainstage, recreating the festival's spontaneous culture. Attendees included consumers, media from the UK and Spain, and global lifestyle and music creators.
'The dancefloor is one of the few places where people feel completely free to express who they are without judgment,' said Korolova. 'It was incredible to watch everyone let go and celebrate their originality together.' Supporting artist Camden Cox added, 'Seeing total strangers connect through a shared experience was pure magic.' Malky Brown, Global Head of Content & Partnerships at BAT, emphasized that the goal was to 'recreate the sense of connection that makes the festival so special' by encouraging people to step outside their comfort zones.
Through connected 'Echo' events in Ibiza and other locations, featuring live stages and synchronized streams, 'Echoes of Tomorrowland' offers dance music fans a unique space to express themselves and experience something new together. The initiative underscores the importance of shared experiences in an increasingly disconnected world, showing that a simple invitation to connect can break down barriers.
