UGI Utilities is scheduled to begin system upgrades in Carlisle on Monday, November 10, as part of a gas main replacement project aimed at providing safe and reliable service. The work also offers opportunities for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.
The upgrades will occur in sections and are expected to extend into the Spring. Construction will pause during the weeks of December 22 and 29, resuming on January 5. The following roads will be affected: C Street between Cherry Street and North College Street; Franklin Street between H Street and C Street; D Street between Redwood Drive and Oak Street; E Street between Franklin Street and North College Street; F Street between Redwood Drive and Ash Avenue; and G Street between Franklin Street and Ash Avenue.
Construction will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Drivers, residents, and business owners may experience lane and parking restrictions during these hours. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service, requiring UGI to access properties to inspect and relight equipment.
Weather and working conditions may affect the completion date. After underground work is finished, final paving and restoration will occur later. UGI encourages anyone interested in converting to natural gas to contact the company at 800-276-2722 or gasconversion@ugi.com. This project underscores UGI's commitment to upgrading aging infrastructure and expanding natural gas access, which can offer a cleaner and more cost-effective energy source for residents and businesses. The planned upgrades are part of broader efforts to modernize the gas distribution system in the region, reducing the risk of leaks and improving overall reliability. For affected residents, the temporary inconveniences of construction are expected to yield long-term benefits in service quality and safety.
