Transatlantic relations have reached a level of tension unprecedented in recent history, according to Elizabeth Graham, author of the bestselling ebook 'From Democracy To Democrazy'. In a recent Substack post titled 'Deception At Davos', Graham analyzes President Donald Trump's appearance at the World Economic Forum and its implications for international trust.
Graham, who worked undercover with the CIA and later spent years studying Russia, notes that European leaders have sought to engage Trump through diplomatic gestures, including commitments to purchase American goods and gifts such as a custom-engraved golf club. However, Trump's proposal regarding Greenland has significantly strained relations. Trump flew to Switzerland to join discussions about his promise to 'take Greenland by force if necessary.'
'The Davos Trump speech was as incoherent as usual, but while Americans are familiar with Trump's misleading statements, Europeans have not been exposed to them as often,' Graham writes. She was surprised by the attentiveness of European leaders and the questions asked after Trump's speech. His statement 'I will not use force to take Greenland' reassured many, but Graham warns that breaking that promise could shock them. 'For Trump, words are used to con others, with no intention or understanding of honesty,' she says.
Graham draws parallels between Trump's approach to Greenland and his actions in Venezuela. The New York Times reported on January 8, 2026, that the 'primary mode of trafficking drugs to the United States from Venezuela is by air - not by boats,' contradicting Trump's justification for bombing boats in the Caribbean. Graham argues that Trump's deceptive statements about Venezuela, where he announced he would manage the country and control its oil industry, are mirrored in his pursuit of Greenland.
Greenland possesses an abundance of untapped rare minerals used in the production of magnets, which are critical for manufacturing aircraft engines, electric cars, and advanced machinery. China dominates the global rare earth magnet market, and after Trump imposed a 100% tariff on certain Chinese goods, China implemented rigorous export controls on rare earth elements and magnets. Graham contends that Trump is striving to build alternative supply chains by owning Greenland, but avoids openly discussing this, claiming control is necessary for U.S. security—a tactic identical to his grab of Venezuela.
Graham also highlights the broader consequences of Trump's policies, including the closure of USAID, which she says resulted in a terrifying genocide across Africa. Citing NPR from July 1, 2025, she notes the death toll could be as high as 14 million souls. According to PBS, Trump and his family have received $1.4 billion due to his presidency in 2025.
'Europe must stand firm and not permit Trump to gain ownership of Greenland,' Graham warns. 'Otherwise, it's uncertain which country he might target next or will he start World War III – just like Hitler's landmass grab in the 1930's and 40's or Stalin's creation then called the USSR.'
