Trilogy Metals Welcomes Alaska Land Transfer to Support Ambler District Development

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has expressed support for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s decision to transfer approximately 1.4 million acres of federal land within Alaska’s Dalton Utility Corridor to the State of Alaska. The company said the move could facilitate infrastructure development, including the proposed Ambler Road project, and help advance critical mineral exploration and development in the Ambler Mining District.

According to the company, the land transfer is a positive step toward unlocking the mineral potential of the Ambler Mining District, one of the world’s richest known copper-dominant districts. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. Trilogy Metals holds a 50 percent interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100 percent of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP) in northwestern Alaska. South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, holds the other 50 percent interest through a joint venture formed in December 2019.

The Ambler Road project, a proposed 211-mile industrial road, would connect the Ambler Mining District to the Dalton Highway, providing access for exploration and potential development. The land transfer is seen as a key enabler for this infrastructure, which could reduce transportation costs and improve logistics for mining operations. The company highlighted that the transfer aligns with its vision to develop the district into a premier North American copper producer while respecting subsistence livelihoods.

Exploration efforts have focused on two deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit, both located within a land package covering approximately 190,929 hectares. Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, Inc., an Alaska Native Corporation, to ensure cooperation with local communities. The announcement comes as the U.S. government prioritizes domestic critical mineral supply chains to reduce reliance on foreign sources. Copper, cobalt, and zinc are essential for renewable energy technologies, electric vehicles, and defense applications. The Ambler Mining District is considered a strategic resource for meeting these needs. Trilogy Metals’ stock could benefit from increased investor attention as the land transfer removes a key hurdle for project advancement. This development underscores the growing importance of Alaska’s mineral resources in the global transition to clean energy. With infrastructure support, the Ambler District could emerge as a significant supplier of copper and other critical minerals, potentially creating economic opportunities for local communities and contributing to U.S. energy independence.
