Trilogy Metals Advances Arctic Project with Federal Permitting Application

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) announced that its 50/50 joint venture, Ambler Metals LLC, has submitted a Clean Water Act Section 404 application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, marking the start of federal permitting for the Arctic Project. The project, located in Alaska's Ambler Mining District, is a high-grade copper deposit with an average grade of approximately 5% copper equivalent. The company also plans to pursue FAST-41 program coverage to streamline permitting timelines as it progresses engineering, environmental work, and field activities.

This step is crucial for advancing the Arctic Project, one of the most significant undeveloped copper resources in North America. The Ambler Mining District is recognized as one of the world's richest copper-dominant districts, hosting polymetallic volcanic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt mineralization. The district's potential is underscored by its vast land package spanning approximately 190,929 hectares.

Trilogy Metals holds a 50% interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100% of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects (UKMP). In December 2019, South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, exercised its option to form a 50/50 joint venture with Trilogy Metals, bringing significant expertise and resources to the project. Exploration efforts have focused on two deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit.

The permitting application represents a critical milestone that could lead to an investment decision by the joint venture. The project's high-grade nature and strategic location in a mining-friendly jurisdiction like Alaska make it attractive for meeting growing global copper demand, particularly for electric vehicles and renewable energy infrastructure. Copper is a key component in these technologies, and domestic sources are increasingly sought after to reduce reliance on foreign supply chains.

Ambler Metals has an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation, which provides a framework for exploration and potential development in cooperation with local communities. Trilogy Metals emphasizes its commitment to protecting subsistence livelihoods while developing the district into a premier North American copper producer.

The submission of the Section 404 application is a foundational step that will trigger environmental reviews and public comment periods. The company expects to benefit from the FAST-41 program, which was designed to expedite the permitting process for major infrastructure projects. This could shorten the timeline to production, enhancing the project's economic viability.
