Heather Viking, the number one Viking travel agent in Travel Leaders Network for verified five-star Viking reviews, has officially completed the cruise portion of her Epic Asia Executive Retreat aboard the Viking Yi Dun and transitioned into Viking's signature China Post-Cruise Extension, beginning with two immersive nights in Xi'an.
This marks the formal conclusion of Heather's shipboard executive training sessions with Viking leadership, including onboard meetings with Michele Saegesser, VP; Viking's Ting Xu, Training Officer; the Captain; Tokutaro, Hotel Manager; and the Cruise Director. Together, they reviewed enhancements to guest experience, Asia program logistics, air support workflows, and the newest Viking Journey tools being rolled out to the agent community in 2026.
"It was an honor to sit with Viking's leadership team and see behind the scenes," Heather said. "From operations to cultural programming to the kindness of the crew — everything on Yi Dun runs with warmth and precision. This ship is truly the heart of Viking's Asia program."
The final days of the cruise included sunshine in Shanghai, where Heather and Amanda explored historic temples, enjoyed Viking's included shore excursions, and experienced the clean, friendly local culture that has made Shanghai a guest favorite on Viking Asia itineraries. The ship's Farewell Party brought together guests, officers, and the Viking host team for an evening celebrating the journey from Japan to Korea and onward into China.
Immediately after disembarkation in Tianjin, Heather and Club Cruise CEO Amanda Huber were escorted through a seamless Beijing airport transfer and flown to Xi'an, the ancient capital of China and home of the world-famous Terra Cotta Warriors. The full story is available at Club Cruise.
Viking's Post-Cruise Extension includes a flight from Beijing to Xi'an, a two-night hotel stay at the Grand Hyatt or Wyndham Grand Xi'an South, a full-day Terra Cotta Warriors experience, a Viking-hosted welcome dinner, a return flight to Beijing, a Temple of Heaven tour, and an optional hutong rickshaw ride. The journey will continue next week to the Great Wall of China.
"Even with my Google Meta Glasses translating in real time, Xi'an is NOT a place you want to navigate alone," Heather said. "Viking's guidance, timing, expert lecturers, and beautifully coordinated logistics make this feel effortless."
The Terra Cotta Warriors remain one of Earth's greatest archaeological discoveries. The Emperor Qin Shi Huang Mausoleum Site Museum welcomes over 11.2 million visitors per year, nearly 150 million since opening, and up to 65,000 visitors per day during peak seasons. Guests tour Pit 1, the massive infantry formation; Pit 2, cavalry and specialized units; Pit 3, the command headquarters; active archaeological labs; and on-site cultural exhibits.
This is where Heather continues her study of Viking's Asia programs, documenting cultural nuances, timing strategies, and guest experience enhancements to help future Viking travelers understand and prepare for this extraordinary destination.
After completing the Xi'an extension, Heather and Amanda will continue to Beijing for the Temple of Heaven, leisure time in the city, optional cultural excursions, and next week's grand finale: walking the Great Wall of China. This completes the full arc of Heather's Epic Asia Executive Retreat — from Yokohama to Osaka, Busan to Shanghai, and now deep into China's imperial past.
"To experience Asia the right way — from ship to temples to world wonders — you need someone who's been through every step of it," Heather said. "If you're considering this itinerary, let's talk. I love helping travelers understand what to expect and how to get the most out of this life-changing trip."
