The Storm Windows, a trio of brothers Rob Mathews (guitar and vocals) and Don Mathews (upright bass and vocals) along with drummer Erik Anderson, today release their new Christmas single and YouTube video, "Santa Goes to Space." The song offers a universal message about the power of Christmas, performed in a ballad style reminiscent of John Prine and other folk heroes. The track follows Santa and Rudolph on a space adventure on Christmas night to spread the spirit of Christmas throughout the "Whole Wide Universe."
The single is available now on all major social media platforms. A YouTube video for the song can be viewed at https://youtu.be/VPblYA4yCEQ, and the audio is available on SoundCloud at https://on.soundcloud.com/HmXbzhAESMP0iCk7tB.
The band will perform live at a single release event on October 31 at The Stone Corral in Richmond, Vermont, and on November 1 at Tank Studio in Burlington. The 8:00 pm show on November 1 is sold out, but tickets for the 6:00 pm show are available at https://sevendaystickets.ticketsauce.com/e/trs-live-the-storm-windows-early-show. Recently, Spin Magazine called the trio's live performance the "Folk Ramones."
The Storm Windows take their name from a John Prine song title, reflecting the band's status as veteran musicians who have weathered storms. Critics have labeled their music "New Americana – a blend of folk, rock and even jazz laced sonics." The new single follows their summer 2025 EP "More Lucky," a set of summer anthems conveying hope and yearning for something better.
The release of "Santa Goes to Space" marks a creative expansion for the band, blending holiday themes with their signature Americana sound. The song's universal message underscores the power of Christmas to transcend boundaries, even reaching into space. This release highlights The Storm Windows' ability to reinterpret traditional themes through a contemporary folk lens, offering listeners a fresh take on holiday music.
