The Sonoma County Tool Library, a nonprofit lending library that allows residents to borrow tools instead of purchasing them, will benefit from a community estate sale on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 595 Hwy 116 N in Sebastopol. The event is part of a broader modernization and outreach initiative led by Martin Reed, who serves as both Executive Director of the Tool Library and a real estate agent with eXp Realty.
Located at 427 Mendocino Ave inside coLAB in Santa Rosa, the Tool Library serves residents across Sonoma County, including Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Graton, Forestville, and West County. Reed is overseeing infrastructure improvements, volunteer and donor recruitment, and public awareness campaigns designed to make the Tool Library more accessible and easier to support.
The organization's modernization includes a rebuilt public website at https://borrowtools.org, a migrated membership system with 2,858 borrower records, and a developing partnership with the Sonoma County Library. The Tool Library is also recruiting board members, volunteers, and donors to strengthen its role as a community resource for home repair, property upkeep, fire-wise maintenance, and sustainability.
“The Tool Library is a practical, neighbor-to-neighbor resource,” said Reed. “It helps people take care of their homes, gardens, repairs, and projects without having to buy every tool themselves. This Saturday's estate sale gives the community a simple way to pitch in, and every dollar goes back into keeping tools available to Sonoma County residents who need them.”
For homeowners, renters, gardeners, and DIY enthusiasts, the Tool Library offers an alternative to purchasing tools for single-use projects. By sharing tools through a nonprofit lending model, the organization promotes affordability and sustainable resource use. The estate sale on June 13 allows residents to support the Tool Library directly while participating in a local community event in Sebastopol. Sale hours and details will be announced by the Tool Library.
