With Halloween falling on a Saturday in 2026, communities in Vermont and New Hampshire can expect more parties, more late-night celebrations, and more pedestrians sharing the roads after dark. That combination—costume parties and drinking on one side, children and families walking door to door on the other—creates one of the most dangerous nights of the year for impaired driving. In response, Sabbeth Law has launched its Sober Holiday Rides program for Halloween, offering free ride reimbursement to encourage people to choose a taxi or rideshare instead of getting behind the wheel after drinking.
The program, detailed on the firm's Sober Holiday Rides program page, will reimburse eligible participants up to $50, including a 10% tip, for a one-way ride home on October 31, 2026. Rides that begin the night of October 31 and end after midnight are eligible. Participants must be 21 or older, the ride must occur within Vermont or New Hampshire, and a receipt and valid identification must be submitted within seven days. The submission window runs from November 1 to November 8, 2026. Rides taken on other days of Halloween weekend do not qualify, and only one-way rides are eligible.
This initiative matters because it directly addresses a preventable cause of serious injury and death. As a personal injury law firm serving Vermont and New Hampshire, Sabbeth Law has seen firsthand the consequences of drunk driving crashes. By removing the cost barrier to getting a safe ride, the firm hopes to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road and prevent the tragedies that often follow Halloween festivities.
"We want people to celebrate responsibly and get home safely," said Michael J. Sabbeth, Esquire. "If covering the cost of a ride removes one barrier to making a safe decision, it's worth it."
The implications extend beyond one night. Sober Holiday Rides is part of Sabbeth Law's broader commitment to injury prevention and community safety, offered during select high-risk holidays throughout the year. The program not only provides immediate assistance but also raises awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and promotes a culture of planning ahead. Community members are encouraged to save the program link before heading out and share it with friends.
