Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM), a biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing innovative therapies and technologies, was featured on the latest episode of The BioMedWire Podcast, where co-founder and executive co-chair Anthony Durkacz discussed the company’s lead drug candidate, Lucid-MS, and its commercial product, unbuzzd. The podcast highlighted the potential of these assets to address significant unmet medical needs and generate substantial value.
Durkacz emphasized that Lucid-MS is being developed to address mobility loss associated with multiple sclerosis by targeting nerve damage, an area he believes remains unmet by currently available treatments. Multiple sclerosis affects millions worldwide, and existing therapies primarily manage symptoms or reduce relapses but do not effectively reverse or prevent nerve damage. Lucid-MS, a patented new chemical entity, has shown in preclinical models the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis. The company is preparing for a Phase 2 clinical trial, which will be the first study to evaluate Lucid-MS in multiple sclerosis patients, following successful Phase 1 testing in healthy volunteers. This trial represents a critical milestone in determining the drug's efficacy and safety in the target population.
In addition to Lucid-MS, Durkacz discussed unbuzzd, a commercial alcohol metabolism product designed to accelerate blood alcohol metabolism. Unbuzzd is currently available in the U.S. market through a spin-off company, Unbuzzd Wellness Inc., in which Quantum retains a 19.84% ownership stake as of March 31, 2026. The agreement also includes royalty payments: 7% of sales from unbuzzd until payments to Quantum total $250 million, after which the royalty drops to 3% in perpetuity. This structure provides Quantum with a recurring revenue stream and the potential for significant income as the product gains market penetration. Quantum retains 100% of the rights to develop similar products or alternative formulations specifically for pharmaceutical and medical uses, allowing for future expansion into clinical applications.
The podcast appearance underscores Quantum BioPharma’s dual strategy: pursuing high-risk, high-reward drug development in neurodegenerative diseases while generating near-term revenue from commercialized wellness products. For investors, the company offers a balanced portfolio with near-term cash flow from unbuzzd royalties and the potential for transformative value creation from Lucid-MS if it succeeds in clinical trials. The upcoming Phase 2 trial will be a key catalyst, as positive results could position Lucid-MS as a first-in-class therapy for multiple sclerosis-associated mobility loss.
