Quantum BioPharma Cuts Costs by 53%, Advances Lucid-MS to Phase 2 Trial for Progressive MS

Quantum BioPharma (NASDAQ: QNTM) (CSE: QNTM) reported its second-quarter 2026 financial and operational results, highlighting a 53% year-over-year reduction in operating expenses to $2.29 million and a 47% decrease in general and administrative expenses to $1.76 million. The company ended the quarter with approximately $9.5 million in cash, cash equivalents, and digital assets, up from $4.1 million at the end of 2025. Management stated that current liquidity is sufficient to fund planned operations to at least October 2027, assuming the first-half 2026 cash burn rate.

The most significant development came after the quarter ended: the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Quantum’s Investigational New Drug (IND) application for Lucid-MS, allowing the company to proceed with a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase 2 clinical trial in patients with progressive multiple sclerosis. This approval is a major milestone for Quantum, as Lucid-MS is a patented new chemical entity that has shown in preclinical models the ability to prevent and reverse myelin degradation, the underlying mechanism of multiple sclerosis.

Progressive multiple sclerosis is a debilitating condition with limited treatment options. The advancement of Lucid-MS into Phase 2 trials could potentially fill a critical unmet need. According to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, about 15% of MS patients are diagnosed with primary progressive MS, and many others transition to secondary progressive MS over time. Current therapies are largely ineffective for the progressive forms of the disease, making new approaches like Lucid-MS particularly important.

Quantum BioPharma is dedicated to building a portfolio of innovative assets and biotech solutions for challenging neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders and alcohol misuse disorders.
