Prelude Prep, a tuition-free public charter school on the southside of San Antonio, has appointed Sonya Cardenas and Laura Rhoades to its Board of Directors. The announcement, made on January 24, 2026, marks a strategic move to bolster the board's leadership as the school continues to expand its academic offerings for Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade students.
Sonya Cardenas brings over 34 years of experience in public education, including as a retired school principal. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Master of Arts in Education, and an Administrative Certification. Beyond instructional leadership, Cardenas has worked in employee benefits administration and client relations as a licensed Life and Health Agent. She will serve on the Board's Development Committee, focusing on family engagement and community partnerships.
Laura Rhoades contributes more than 30 years of combined experience in education, insurance, customer service, and business. As a retired educator, she has dedicated her career to student success and building community relationships. Her background supports the board's work in governance, strategic planning, and operational oversight.
