Plato's Closet, a leading teen and young adult retail resale concept, has opened a new location in Williamsburg, Virginia, as of November 13. Situated at 1248 Richmond Rd inside Midtown Row, the store aims to provide local youth with a sustainable shopping option that offers cash for gently used clothing and accessories.
The new franchise is locally owned by Austin and Jennifer Saylor, a husband-and-wife team with strong ties to the community. Jennifer, a Williamsburg native and William & Mary graduate, previously worked as a coastal geologist and environmental scientist before turning her passion for sustainability into business ownership. Austin brings extensive retail experience from his family's five Plato's Closet stores across Virginia. 'I've always been passionate about sustainability and finding ways to give items a second life,' said Jennifer Saylor. 'Opening Plato's Closet in my hometown allows us to combine that passion with an opportunity to support local students and families.'
Plato's Closet is part of Winmark – the Resale Company, a franchise network focused on sustainability and small business formation. Unlike typical consignment stores, no appointment is necessary to sell items; customers receive cash on the spot for outgrown or unwanted brand-name clothing and accessories. The store claims savings of up to 70 percent off retail prices.
The grand opening celebration runs from November 13 through November 16. On Thursday, the first 25 customers receive a $25 gift card, with complimentary refreshments. Friday features a free tote bag for the first 25 customers and a designer handbag drop. Saturday includes an athletic brand drop from Lululemon and a local gift basket raffle. Sunday offers double rewards points on all purchases, and a $10 coupon for future purchases with a $75 minimum spend.
