After 46 years with Micro Com Systems (MCS), owner Craig Hollingum is retiring, but not without ensuring the company's future. Effective December 1, 2025, Consentia Inc. of Edmonton will take over the Vancouver document scanning bureau, a move that Hollingum says came after careful consideration of his options.
Hollingum began his career in 1979 at a micrographic service bureau before joining MCS in 1981. He became a co-owner in 1992 and sole owner in 2010. When retirement approached, he faced four choices: passing the business to successors, dying at his desk, winding down the business, or finding a buyer. With successors declining and the other options unappealing, he pursued a sale. After initial conversations in 2023 with several parties, Consentia re-engaged earlier this year, leading to a successful agreement.
Consentia, a Canadian company with a proven track record in imaging services, will maintain operations and keep existing employees. Hollingum expressed confidence in the new owners, stating, "It's been a great ride." For more details, visit Craig's farewell message.
Micro Com Systems, established in 1975, provides document management solutions including document imaging, archival scanning, medical imaging, OCR, large format scanning, microfilm scanning, aperture card scanning, enterprise report management, high-speed printing, and capture software and equipment. The company's website is microcomsys.com.
This transition ensures that MCS's clients will continue to receive high-quality services from a locally owned Canadian company, preserving jobs and maintaining the business's legacy in Vancouver.
