In an open letter addressed to the architects of the global future, author Sajid Khan challenges the world's most powerful leaders gathering in Davos, Switzerland, to confront what he calls the root cause of global dysfunction: the neglect of emotional brain health. Khan argues that despite immense power, funding, and intelligence, the world remains fractured and violent because leaders are trying to solve biological problems with economic tools.
Khan diagnoses the rise of what he terms 'Smart Monsters'—leaders with high IQs but emotionally blocked brains, whose intelligence makes them more dangerous rather than wise. He contends that current education systems, funded and promoted by global institutions, mass-produce these Smart Monsters by focusing solely on cognitive skills while ignoring emotional baggage. 'When a leader's brain is on fire with ego, fear, and unhealed trauma, their high IQ does not make them wise; it only makes them more dangerous,' he writes.
At the core of his argument is a distinction between the mind and the brain. Khan describes the mind as the 'Driver' (self-image) and the brain as the 'Engine' (emotional factory). He asserts that trillions have been spent polishing the driver through education in skills and economics, but the emotional engine remains full of sludge—childhood trauma, insecurity, and fear. This blind spot, he claims, is why treaties fail and cooperation collapses.
Khan proposes a scientific solution: the Science of Braintecness and Emotional Brain Shunting (EBS), which he says can quantify emotional altitude, clear emotional blockages, and teach wisdom. He invites global leaders to pivot resources toward the 'Wisdom Industry,' investing in brain education, wisdom spas, and prevention rather than cleaning up the mess of war and depression. 'To fix a machine, you must first understand how it works,' Khan states. 'And for centuries, we have misunderstood the most important machine in existence: the human head.'
Khan's foundation, The 4th R Foundation, headquartered in Ridgefield Park, NJ, focuses on transforming global mental health into brain education. The foundation advocates for adding a '4th R'—Righteousness (Wisdom)—to the traditional 3 Rs of reading, writing, and arithmetic. Among its key achievements are 50+ years of research, U.S. patents on quantifying the mind, a library of 217 books, and the 'Child to Sage' initiative. The foundation is currently seeking partners to launch the first Global Brain Health Summit in 2026.
Khan's invitation urges leaders to move from the age of the Smart Monster to the age of the Wise Human. 'The world does not need another summit of speeches. It needs a summit of healing,' he concludes. He offers his blueprint for a new global economic sector dedicated to creating wealth through emotional wellness.
