Lexaria Bioscience Corp. (Nasdaq: LEXX) announced that its Animal Study #1 (GLP-1-A26-1) has begun dosing on schedule as of June 10, 2026. The study is evaluating a number of formulation enhancements using DehydraTECH-semaglutide and DehydraTECH-CBD compositions to explore improved performance and stake new intellectual property claims in the competitive GLP-1 drug sector. Results are expected by early September, barring any interruptions.
One of the primary objectives of the study is to test innovative alternative formulations to SNAC (salcaprozate sodium), the absorption enhancer used in Novo Nordisk's oral Rybelsus and Wegovy tablet products. If Lexaria can demonstrate similar or superior performance with its own formulations, the company may establish valuable proprietary IP and offer an industry alternative to SNAC. Lexaria has already filed three new patent applications anticipating these technological improvements.
The study uses Sprague-Dawley rats across 11 arms testing various novel compositions. Blood samples are taken over an 8-24 hour period to measure pharmacokinetic performance. Additionally, drug concentrations in the brain will be measured, as DehydraTECH has previously shown enhanced absorption into brain tissue—an area of growing interest given GLP-1 drugs' reliance on brain neurochemistry.
The study includes reference arms using existing DHT-sema and DHT-CBD compositions, allowing Lexaria to compare results against its proprietary historical data. The study is fully funded from existing resources.
Separately, Lexaria received its first Australian patent grant (#2023302884) on June 11, 2026, for pharmaceutical compositions and methods for treating hypertension, part of its Family #21. This patent joins seven others in the same family granted in the US, Europe, and Japan, with a term until April 2043.
