Justin vom Eigen, founder and CEO of JustInsurance, is on a mission to overhaul insurance education, leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to make learning more engaging and effective. In a recent Q&A, vom Eigen shared insights into the challenges and opportunities in modernizing a traditionally conservative industry, emphasizing the need for change to attract and retain new talent.

Vom Eigen’s journey began when he noticed talented recruits failing prelicensing exams or quitting due to outdated, uninspiring course materials. He started creating YouTube videos to help, and the overwhelming response revealed a significant gap in the market. “Nobody was teaching insurance like it’s 2025, so I decided to fix it,” he said.

JustInsurance offers fully online, interactive pre-licensing and continuing education courses that simplify complex concepts. The company handles the entire licensing process, from exam scheduling to background checks, and provides API integration for agencies. “We turned the most boring part of insurance into something that doesn’t make you want to quit your career before it starts,” vom Eigen noted.

AI plays a central role in JustInsurance’s approach. The company uses AI to rewrite content at a fourth-grade reading level, generate practice exams that predict state exam questions, build personalized study modules, and handle customer service inquiries. “The result is that students finish faster, drop out less, and pass at higher rates than any competitor,” he said.

Despite the benefits, modernizing a traditional industry comes with challenges. Vom Eigen highlighted the difficulty of convincing conservative stakeholders to embrace change, comparing it to “trying to explain ChatGPT to someone who’s only ever used Google.” He also noted the arduous state approval process, admitting, “If I knew how much effort it would take before I started, I probably wouldn’t have started.”

Florida’s ecosystem has been instrumental in JustInsurance’s growth. The state’s massive insurance market, booming fintech scene, and entrepreneurial energy provided momentum. “If I’d launched anywhere else, we’d still be crawling instead of sprinting,” vom Eigen said.

Beyond licensing, JustInsurance supports career growth through continuing education, business-building resources, and tools to help agents launch their own agencies. Vom Eigen emphasized the company’s long-term commitment: “We’re not a one-night stand; we’re a long-term business partner.”

Looking ahead, JustInsurance plans to go national, expand its course catalog, and develop tools for post-licensing agent growth. The company is also partnering with carriers and agencies that recognize the value of better training. “The goal is simple: do our best to help the insurance education space as much as possible and make it a no-brainer to use us for insurance license education,” vom Eigen concluded.
