HPRA Awards Record-Breaking 2026 Scholarship Class, Expands to High School Seniors

The Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) has announced its 2026 scholarship recipients, marking the largest cohort in the program's history and its first-ever high school senior awardee. The milestone, reported via NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE, underscores a growing industry push to invest in diverse talent earlier and more expansively.

Since its launch in 2022, the HPRA scholarship program has awarded 20 students a total of $50,000. The 2026 class includes Camila Garcia Chirino (University of Florida), Isabelle Flores (The University of Texas at Austin), Luis David Latozefsky (Stetson University), Melanie Herrera (Florida International University), Nasaiah Algarin (American University) and Xavier Ramirez (University of Southern California). The addition of a high school senior recipient represents a strategic expansion, allowing HPRA to reach emerging talent before college and strengthen the pipeline of diverse communicators.

Recipients were selected based on academic achievement, leadership, community involvement and commitment to communications. Their interests span public relations, strategic communications, public affairs, entertainment and media, civic engagement and social impact—areas where Hispanic representation has historically lagged. By supporting students at different academic stages, HPRA aims to create greater access to education, professional development and industry opportunities.

“The growth of this program is something our leadership is deeply proud of because it reflects what is possible when our industry invests intentionally in the next generation,” said HPRA National President Sonia V. Diaz. She credited partners like Aflac and H+M Communications, as well as individual donors, for enabling expanded reach, mentorship and impact in communities nationwide.

Beyond financial support, scholars gain access to HPRA's national network through mentorship, professional development, networking and exposure to industry leaders. They also receive free access to HPRA National webinars and events, a mentorship and shadowing opportunity with a board member, and recognition at the annual ¡BRAVO! Awards gala on Nov. 19, 2026, at the LA River Center and Gardens in Los Angeles.

Melanie Herrera of Florida International University will receive the Roshana Gossoff Memorial Scholarship, a $1,500 award honoring a beloved communicator and former HPRA Miami officer. The scholarship recognizes an FIU undergraduate demonstrating strong interest in public relations and communications, perpetuating Gossoff's legacy in South Florida.

This year's program theme, “Legacy in Motion,” honors HPRA's history and the leaders shaping each generation of communicators. The record-setting class exemplifies that legacy by investing in emerging talent and ensuring progress built over more than four decades continues forward.

The implications for the communications industry are significant. As organizations face increasing pressure to reflect diverse audiences, HPRA's expanded scholarship program helps build a more representative talent pool. By starting earlier—now including high school seniors—and providing sustained mentorship, HPRA is not only easing financial barriers but also creating a structured pathway into the profession. This approach could serve as a model for other industry groups seeking to address diversity gaps and foster long-term inclusion.

“Our scholarship winners inspire us every year with their stories,” said Natalie Asorey, Scholarship Committee Co-Chair. “We're proud to support and champion them as they chart their paths in this industry.”

With the 2026 class, HPRA reinforces its role as a premier organization for Hispanic public relations professionals, founded in 1984. The program's growth signals a broader recognition that intentional investment in diverse students is essential for the future of multicultural communications.
