HPA Talent Signs Comedian Alexis Carabaño, Betting on Multidimensional Entertainment Model

The decision by HPA Talent to sign New York-based stand-up comedian, digital creator and entrepreneur Alexis Carabaño for management is more than a routine talent acquisition. It reflects a growing recognition within the entertainment industry that the most durable careers are no longer built on a single skill or platform. Carabaño's background, which spans nearly two decades as a restaurateur, a national comedy competition win, and the founding of a New York City comedy club, positions him as a test case for a management approach that prioritizes breadth over specialization.

Carabaño first developed his stand-up career by hosting shows inside his own Brooklyn restaurant, VSPOT, a plant-based Latin concept he built with his brother. That origin story matters because it demonstrates an ability to create an audience from scratch, without the traditional gatekeepers of comedy clubs or late-night television. He later won a national comedy competition for English-speaking Latin American performers through HBO Latino and appeared on the HBO/Max special "Entre Nos: The Winners." He has since performed throughout New York City and most recently opened for comedian Marcello Hernandez.

HPA Talent CEO Paris D'Jon was explicit about why the signing matters. "Alexis is exactly the type of talent we look for at HPA because there are multiple layers to who he is and what we can build," D'Jon said. "He's funny, he understands business and social media, and most importantly, he knows how to connect with an audience. We see opportunities for Alexis well beyond the stand-up stage, including touring, television, digital content, brand partnerships, hosting, sports, lifestyle and entertainment." That list is not incidental. It maps directly onto the revenue streams that now sustain comedians who can move fluidly between live performance, sponsored content, and original intellectual property.

The implications extend beyond one comedian's career. As streaming platforms fragment audiences and traditional late-night exposure becomes less reliable, management companies are increasingly looking for talent who arrive with an existing community and a business instinct. Carabaño's founding of St. Marks Comedy Club, a speakeasy-style venue in the East Village, gives him a physical footprint in one of the world's most competitive comedy markets. His development of "Juggling Jokes," a live event combining stand-up, professional athletes, soccer culture, games and freestyle entertainment, shows an intent to build formats rather than simply perform within them.

D'Jon framed the broader shift succinctly: "Comedy today is much bigger than simply walking on stage with a microphone. The comedians who can build communities, create content, host, work with brands and develop original concepts have tremendous opportunities. Alexis already has many of those pieces in place. Our job now is to connect the dots."

For Carabaño, the signing resolves a long-standing hesitation. "For a long time, I was apprehensive about signing with a manager or agent, but Paris and his team made me feel both comfortable and confident about fully immersing myself in entertainment," he said. That immersion will now be guided by a full-service sports and entertainment management company representing talent across comedy, sports, music, digital media, lifestyle and entertainment. If successful, the partnership could serve as a blueprint for how comedians with entrepreneurial backgrounds are packaged and scaled in an era when audience attention is the most valuable currency.
