The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) will bring its flagship promotional campaign, Think Business, Think Hong Kong (TBTHK), to Kuala Lumpur on 11 August, offering Malaysian businesses a chance to connect with Hong Kong leaders, investors and professional services experts. The full-day symposium at the Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur targets Malaysian companies seeking to expand beyond the domestic market, aligning with Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030 goals of industrial transformation, sustainability and global value chain integration.
TBTHK will highlight how Hong Kong can support Malaysian companies in accessing opportunities across ASEAN, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and the wider China market. Leung Kwan Ho, HKTDC’s Regional Director of South East Asia & South Asia, emphasized Hong Kong’s role as a superconnector and super value-adder, enabling Malaysian firms to leverage its ecosystem of global businesses, investors and professional services for market entry and cross-border investment.
The event will feature discussions on RMB internationalisation, sustainability and green innovations, Hong Kong’s role as an international financial and business centre, and healthcare solutions. Notable guests include Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport Malaysia. A delegation of around 100 Hong Kong officials and business leaders will participate, along with 30 Hong Kong service providers and start-ups showcasing products in the Business Support Zone and InnoVenture Salon.
One-on-one business consultations and on-site matching will facilitate collaborations. The symposium underscores the strong economic ties between Hong Kong and Malaysia, with Malaysia being Hong Kong’s 3rd largest ASEAN trading partner in 2025. Hong Kong was Malaysia’s 2nd largest investor after Singapore, with cumulative FDI of US$34.8 billion at end-2025.
