Hong Kong Lighting Fairs Highlight Smart and Human-Centric Trends with 3,000 Exhibitors

The 27th Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Autumn Edition) opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running through 30 October, while the 10th Hong Kong International Outdoor and Tech Light Expo begins tomorrow at AsiaWorld-Expo. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the twin fairs bring together some 3,000 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions, with a strong focus on innovation, smart design, and sustainability.

Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC Jenny Koo noted the thriving development of innovative lighting products and significant growth potential. Under the theme “Illuminated Designs for a Smarter Future,” the fairs showcase products from leading markets including Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland, Taiwan, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

A key attraction is the Hall of Connected Lighting, which has been upgraded and features some 70 leading brands. The hall includes immersive experience zones where visitors can explore multi-dimensional light installations that fuse art and technology, AI-integrated health and wellness applications, and solutions for the silver market. Prominent brands such as Casambi, Moorgen, Signify, and Koizumi are showcasing award-winning designs and lighting used in iconic projects worldwide. Major alliances like the DALI Alliance and SILA-EMN Alliance, alongside new participants the Connectivity Standards Alliance and the Zhaga Consortium, collectively present the smart lighting ecosystem.

The Hall of Aurora brings together some 540 renowned brands offering high-quality lighting products, including Prosperity Group, LEEDARSON, Lival, and Megaman. Other zones cover Commercial Lighting, LED Lighting, Residential Lighting, and Testing, Certification & Inspection, providing one-stop sourcing opportunities.

The Outdoor and Tech Light Expo highlights outdoor commercial and industrial lighting solutions for smart cities. The Smart Pole and Solution Zone features innovations like E-Lite Semiconductor Inc.’s smart light poles equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting and environmental sensing technology. Shenzhen Zhongchuang Lighting Technology presents patented modular square stadium lights that simplify installation and maintenance. The Horticultural Lighting and Outdoor and Public Lighting zones showcase advanced technologies for parks, gardens, and public spaces.

Smart lighting is a major trend, with Statista projecting a $44 billion market by 2030. Exhibitors have designed hands-on experiences, such as Casambi’s Artisan Café in collaboration with ERCO, simulating natural light at different times of the day. TUYA Smart demonstrates how AI and lighting integrate in living room and bedroom settings. Moorgen presents cross-over collections from global design masters, including the global debut of the Flower of Paris Motorised Track Light, designed with Ma Yansong. The track light features a 355-degree rotating head and adjustable beam angles, operated via an intelligent control system.

Human-centric lighting remains a key focus. Signify unveils VitaUp Vitamin D3 Modules by Philips, providing safe UVB exposure to support vitamin D levels. Jiangsu Insona Communication Technology Co. introduces a smart lighting system using a circadian algorithm synchronized with local sunrise and sunset times. Foshan Electrical and Lighting Co. launches an Eye-care Ceiling Light for the silver market, improving visual clarity by 15% and boosting lighting efficiency by 12%.

Award-winning designs are also on display. Filmbase Tech presents the world’s largest LED mesh mid-air suspended screen, a Guinness World Record holder. GRE Alpha showcases LED drivers used at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore. General Lighting Innovation exhibits its flexible, impact-resistant Neon Strip. At the Outdoor and Tech Light Expo, AGC Lighting Co. shows outdoor fixtures that have won German IF Design and Red Dot awards.

The Innovative Lighting Design Forum held today explored urban lighting design and RCEP opportunities. Tomorrow, the Connected Lighting Forum will delve into smart living ecosystems and sustainable lighting, featuring the launch of “Edge Mixed Networking Technical Requirements for Smart Buildings.” Renowned lighting designer Tino Kwan will host a masterclass titled “The Language of Light: From Artistic Design to Everyday Experience.” A seminar on sustainable outdoor lighting will also be held at AsiaWorld-Expo.

The fairs run concurrently with Eco Expo Asia at AsiaWorld-Expo, offering cross-sector business opportunities. Under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, the online Click2Match platform extends business matching from 20 October to 7 November.
