Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a delegation on a seven-day visit to Canada starting September 20 to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business. The visit, which will cover Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, is one of the outbound missions under the supervision of the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development. It underscores Hong Kong's role as a super-connector between Mainland China and global markets, particularly in strategic sectors such as sustainability and life and health sciences.
The delegation, led by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, will comprise Chinese Mainland companies in sustainability and life and health sciences. The visit aims to help these enterprises understand the local ecosystems and precisely align their go-global needs. Simultaneously, it seeks to attract Canadian businesses in these strategic sectors to invest in Hong Kong, thereby driving new growth impetus. This two-way investment flow is critical for Hong Kong's economy, as it reinforces its position as an international financial and innovation hub.
Ms Lee said, "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."
During the visit, the delegation will meet with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will also hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and take part in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are designed to foster partnerships and facilitate knowledge exchange, which are essential for Mainland companies to successfully navigate foreign markets and for Canadian firms to tap into Asian opportunities.
The implications of this mission are significant. For Mainland enterprises, it provides a platform to access Canadian expertise and networks, which can accelerate their global expansion and enhance their competitiveness. For Canada, it opens doors to investment and collaboration with some of the world's most dynamic companies, particularly in sectors that are vital for sustainable development and health innovation. For Hong Kong, it reinforces its value as a gateway between Mainland China and the world, attracting foreign investment and talent. As global economic dynamics shift, such initiatives are crucial for maintaining Hong Kong's relevance and driving mutual growth.
The GoGlobal Task Force's efforts align with broader national strategies to encourage Chinese companies to go global, while also positioning Hong Kong as a preferred destination for international businesses. By facilitating these connections, InvestHK and its partners are not only supporting individual companies but also contributing to the economic resilience and diversification of the region. The outcomes of this visit could lead to long-term partnerships and increased cross-border investment, further integrating Hong Kong into global value chains.
