Gerresheimer, a global partner for the pharma, biotech, and cosmetic industries, has once again been awarded Gold by sustainability rating provider EcoVadis, improving its overall score from 78 to 82 out of 100 points. The recognition places Gerresheimer among the top 5% of all companies rated by EcoVadis and within the top 2% in its industry. The improved rating underscores the company's consistent progress in implementing sustainability targets and highlights the growing importance of independent ESG assessments for corporate credibility and customer trust.
EcoVadis evaluates more than 175,000 companies annually across four dimensions: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Gerresheimer has relied on EcoVadis since 2011 and first achieved Gold status in 2022 with a score of 68. The steady improvement to 82 points in 2026 reflects the company's systematic approach to sustainability management. Notably, Gerresheimer ranks in the top 1% for sustainable procurement, emphasizing the critical role of responsible supply chains in its overall performance.
"With the improved EcoVadis rating and our first voluntary report based on the CSRD, we are making our sustainability performance measurable and transparent for our customers," said Wolf Lehmann, CFO of Gerresheimer AG. "We remain committed to consistently pursuing our ambitious sustainability targets in the future." The voluntary CSRD-aligned report for the 2025 financial year, which is available for download here, represents a significant advancement in the structure and transparency of Gerresheimer's sustainability reporting.
The EcoVadis rating framework is based on internationally recognized standards, including the UN Global Compact, ILO conventions, GRI standards, ISO 26000, the CERES Principles, and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. This comprehensive assessment covers a wide range of performance indicators while accounting for industry-specific characteristics, making the Gold award a robust benchmark of corporate social responsibility.
Gerresheimer's sustainability strategy extends beyond EcoVadis. The company discloses relevant data annually on the EcoVadis platform and participates in the CDP rating, while also being evaluated by MSCI, Sustainalytics, and ISS. For Gerresheimer, the improved EcoVadis score and top-tier rankings are more than just accolades; they signal to customers, investors, and partners that the company is effectively managing sustainability risks and opportunities. With ambitious targets in climate protection, circular economy, responsible supply chains, and social responsibility, Gerresheimer is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable practices within the pharmaceutical and healthcare packaging industry. The recognition also reinforces the company's commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, which is increasingly important as regulatory and market expectations for ESG performance continue to rise. As Gerresheimer demonstrates measurable progress, it sets a benchmark for others in the sector and strengthens its competitive advantage in a global marketplace that values sustainability.
