Bernice Kapinga’s career path demonstrates how a foundation in law can evolve into a cybersecurity role, blending legal frameworks with technical safeguards. Her journey began during her LLB studies, where a specialized module in Internet Law introduced her to digital privacy, data protection, and cybercrime, highlighting the dependency of modern legal systems on secure digital environments. This realization prompted her to independently research cybersecurity fundamentals and governance models, leading to formal training through the MIT x Simplilearn Postgraduate Program in Cybersecurity, where she studied network security, cryptography, and policy frameworks, among other topics.
Kapinga gained practical experience through hands-on labs in multi-factor authentication, SSH hardening, and authentication log analysis, grounding her in operational security realities. She joined Wendt Partners, a HubSpot Elite Solutions Partner, initially in a support capacity. Through on-the-job learning, she gained full exposure to ISO/IEC 27001:2022, SOC 2 Type II, Vanta compliance automation, and internal governance workflows. She played a contributing role in preparing, documenting, and maintaining key components of Wendt Partners’ security posture, supporting the company in achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification in August and SOC 2 Type II compliance in October.
Her work spanned control documentation, policy alignment, and interdepartmental coordination, giving her hands-on experience in organizational security systems. Today, Kapinga is building a multidisciplinary career at the intersection of cybersecurity, compliance, legal frameworks, and operations. She is actively pursuing further studies in information security, privacy, and global compliance practices. Her long-term ambition is to help organizations strengthen resilience and build trust in an increasingly digital landscape, bridging the gap between law, technology, and secure business operations.
