Flender, a global leader in mechanical and electrical drive technology, has certified Atlanta Gear Works as a Flender Service Partner, a move that promises to streamline support for cement manufacturers and other heavy industries that depend on Flender gearboxes. The certification, announced December 10, 2025, follows a rigorous two-day audit of Atlanta Gear Works' facilities and procedures.
Flender, headquartered in Bocholt, Germany, and operating for 125 years, is known for its high-quality gear units, couplings, and generators, particularly in the wind energy sector. Its service portfolio includes installation, commissioning, and maintenance. Atlanta Gear Works, based in Dawsonville, Georgia, has over 35 years of experience repairing and rebuilding Flender gearboxes, making it a natural partner.
"We are very familiar with what is required to rebuild a Flender gearbox having had many years of experience," said Craig Massa, Atlanta Gear Works VP-Sales. The certification process covered environmental, health, and safety plans, manufacturing procedures, data control, training, and facility cleanliness. Atlanta Gear Works President Jack Conway noted, "Flender is highly regarded worldwide and is known for high quality and dependability. This partnership proves our expertise."
For cement manufacturers, gearbox reliability is critical to continuous operations. Failures can lead to costly downtime. By partnering with a certified service provider, Flender customers gain access to specialized repair services that adhere to Flender's standards, ensuring longer gearbox life and reduced risk of breakdowns. The certification also means Atlanta Gear Works can offer more comprehensive support, including genuine parts and technical guidance.
Atlanta Gear Works serves the pulp-and-paper, power, plastics, steel, and chemical industries, in addition to cement. The company's investment in people and processes aligns with Flender's commitment to quality. This partnership is expected to enhance service availability for Flender gearboxes in North America.
