FleetCollect Launches AI Connector for Truckers to Query IFTA, DOT, and Carrier Data via ChatGPT and Claude

FleetCollect, a trucking compliance software platform serving owner-operators and small fleets across the United States, has introduced an AI connector that enables users to query their IFTA fuel tax, DOT compliance, and carrier data using natural language through AI assistants like Claude and ChatGPT. The connector, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for securely connecting AI to external data, aims to streamline access to critical operational information.

For many small carriers, essential answers are buried in quarterly IFTA reports, driver files, dispatch logs, and federal databases. The new connector eliminates the need to navigate multiple screens and manually read data. Once connected, users can ask questions such as 'What were my IFTA miles by state for the last quarter?' or 'Which of my drivers have documents expiring in the next 30 days?' and receive immediate, plain-language responses based on their own FleetCollect data.

Beyond internal records, the connector can verify any motor carrier by USDOT or MC number using live FMCSA data, providing operating authority, insurance, and safety information. This feature is particularly beneficial for brokers and dispatchers who need to vet partners quickly without leaving the conversation.

Security and privacy are paramount. The connector includes 14 tools, all read-only, ensuring the AI can only retrieve and summarize information, not alter or delete any data. Driver personally identifiable information such as emails, phone numbers, and license numbers are filtered out. Each request is scoped to the authenticated account, so users only see their own data. The connector uses OAuth 2.1 with Dynamic Client Registration and PKCE, allowing users to authorize with their existing FleetCollect login and revoke access at any time.

Herman Armstrong, founder of FleetCollect, emphasized the practical benefits: 'Owner-operators didn't get into trucking to click through dashboards. We built this so a driver can just ask — 'what do I owe in IFTA,' 'which of my guys is about to expire,' 'is this carrier legit' — and get a straight answer from their own numbers. We made it read-only and privacy-filtered on purpose: it answers questions, it doesn't touch your data.'

The connector is available to FleetCollect subscribers and is being submitted to the Claude and ChatGPT directories. Operators can connect via the server URL https://app.fleetcollect.net/mcp. More details are available at https://fleetcollect.net/developers.

This launch marks a significant step in integrating AI into trucking operations, potentially reducing administrative burdens and improving compliance. By making data access conversational, FleetCollect aims to empower owner-operators and small fleets to make informed decisions quickly, enhancing overall efficiency and safety. The move could set a precedent for other compliance software providers to adopt similar AI-driven interfaces.
