eyeo Raises €40 Million to Commercialize Color-Splitting Sensor Technology

eyeo, a company specializing in nanophotonic color-splitting technology, announced today that it has raised €40 million in Series A funding, bringing total funding to €55 million. The round was led by Innovation Industries, with participation from existing investors imec.xpand, Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, QBIC fund, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF) and Brabant Development Agency (BOM). The funding will support eyeo’s efforts to bring seven years of proven nanophotonic science to market as production-ready color-splitting sensors.

Traditional image sensors rely on color filter arrays that block approximately 70% of incoming light, a limitation that has persisted for decades. eyeo’s technology replaces these filters with nanophotonic structures that guide photons directly to individual pixels, capturing all incoming light and enabling full light sensitivity. This breakthrough allows sensors to capture three times more light, resulting in superior image quality in low-light conditions and enhanced color fidelity.

According to the company, eyeo sensors are compatible with any CMOS sensor platform and can support sub-0.5-micron pixels, making them suitable for a wide range of applications including smartphones, extended reality (XR) devices, and smart city infrastructure. The global imaging market is valued at approximately $30 billion, and eyeo’s technology could address a critical bottleneck in camera performance across these sectors.

The funding round underscores growing investor interest in deep-tech innovations that address fundamental hardware limitations. “eyeo’s nanophotonic approach offers a transformative solution to a problem that has hindered imaging for decades,” said a representative from Innovation Industries. “We are excited to support their journey from lab to market.”

eyeo is headquartered at High Tech Campus Eindhoven in the Netherlands, with a sensor design center in Antwerp, Belgium. The company plans to use the new capital to scale production and accelerate customer adoption. For more details, see the full announcement.
