The 20th edition of Eco Expo Asia, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, and co-organized by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government, opened today at AsiaWorld-Expo and runs through October 31. The event features some 340 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, showcasing innovative green technologies, products, and ESG solutions. This year's expo emphasizes three key areas: Circular Economy and Waste Management, Green & Smart Mobility, and ESG-related Services, directly responding to the Hong Kong Policy Address's focus on fostering green and low-carbon living and expediting green technology applications.
The expo's opening ceremony was attended by Yu Huiwen, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People's Republic of China; Ding Zhijun, Deputy Director of the Department of Energy Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization; Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Hong Kong SAR Government; HKTDC Executive Director Sophia Chong; and Richard Li, Executive Director of Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd. Sophia Chong highlighted the expo's milestone, stating, "This year, we celebrate a significant milestone of the Expo - its 20th edition. This not only marks our commitment to sustainability but also underscores our ongoing mission to develop the ecosystem for driving innovation and collaboration to support the green agenda." Tse Chin-wan added, "In the global journey towards sustainability, Hong Kong serves as a 'super connector'... bringing together talent, technology, and capital to foster collaboration and scale up green innovation."
The expo includes 17 pavilions, with first-time participants such as the Environmental Campaign Committee, showcasing 22 local green start-ups, and the ANSO Environmental Technology Industry Alliance, featuring 11 mainland enterprises focused on water resources and atmospheric environment technologies. New overseas pavilions include Italy and South Korea, while Canada, the Netherlands, and Norway return. The expo also attracts buyers from Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Hungary, and Poland.
Key exhibitors include Green AI Technology Limited (Booth 3-D38), which displays an AI-powered smart sorting bin for real-time waste identification; SANY Turbo Fly Machine Limited (Booth 6-C26), presenting a mobile charging power station for electric trucks; and Llewellyn and Partners Company Limited (Booth 6-D14), showcasing AutoTwin, an AI-powered platform for the construction industry. Research institutions like The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lingnan University, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University Jinjiang Technology and Innovation Research Institute also participate. Start-ups such as afterNATURE (Booth 3-F20) present the Deep Hexagonal Basin product to preserve coastal biodiversity, while Formwork IO (Booth 3-F20) globally debuts AtmosTile, a carbon-negative building material.
The Eco Asia Conference, a highlight of the expo, features sessions on circular economy, green building, and smart mobility. On October 30, the conference will focus on "Building a Sustainable Future: Gearing Towards a Net-Zero Built Environment" and "Green & Smart Mobility - Envisioning the Future of Transportation," with speakers including Pak-cheung Chan, Deputy Director of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, and Dr. Rick Mo, Head of APAS at the Hong Kong Productivity Council. The 6th Hydrogen Economy Forum will be held on October 29, with Diane Wong, JP, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology, delivering the keynote address.
On October 31, the expo will open to the public free of charge, featuring talks, workshops, and the Green Mart for eco-friendly products.
