The 21st Eco Expo Asia 2026, jointly organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd, opened today at AsiaWorld-Expo. Running from 26 to 29 October under the theme 'Connecting the World for a Sustainable Future', the event brings together more than 340 exhibitors from 15 countries and regions, making it a significant platform for green technology exchange and business matching.
The expo's importance is underscored by the participation of some 200 senior officials and representatives from the Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Belt and Road and ASEAN countries. This high-level attendance signals growing international commitment to green collaboration and positions Hong Kong as a pivotal connector for sustainable development. Notably, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are joining for the first time, reflecting the expo's expanding reach.
HKTDC Executive Director Sophia Chong emphasised the alignment with Hong Kong's first Five-Year Plan and the latest Policy Address, which call for building a green and liveable city. She noted that the expo gathers innovative green technologies and fosters exchange among governments, businesses, investors and research institutions. The event also leverages Hong Kong's strengths as an international business centre to help enterprises enter new markets.
Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan highlighted Hong Kong's role as a 'super connector' and 'super value-adder' in fostering regional and international green cooperation. The concurrent Belt and Road Green Innovation Conference, jointly organised by the Environment and Ecology Bureau and the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, further amplifies the expo's impact by creating synergies between policy and business.
The expo features 18 pavilions, including the new ASEAN Pavilion with seven countries and 12 green technology ventures. The HKSAR Government booth introduces a comprehensive experience zone with themes like 'Green Flat', 'Green Match', 'Green Cooperation' and 'Green Innovation', showcasing sustainable living and fostering collaboration. The GoGlobal Connect Zone, set up for the first time, supports Chinese Mainland environmental enterprises in reaching international markets through Hong Kong's professional services.
Four thematic areas align with the latest decarbonisation policies: 'Green Energy in Motion', 'Frontier Green Tech', 'Building for a Greener City' and 'From Waste to Worth'. Exhibitors include EcoCeres Limited, the world's second largest sustainable aviation fuel producer, and TriTerra Technology Limited with its slim wall-mounted DC Fast EV charger. The Chinese University of Hong Kong presents high-strength bacterial cellulose films upcycled from tea waste, while Lingnan University showcases an AIoT and GeoAI fleet management system.
Over 80 government, industry and academic leaders will speak across more than 30 forums and thematic sessions. The Eco Asia Conference, the flagship event, explores green development from multiple perspectives. A session today featured Professor Su Hui from HKUST discussing the Multi-Spectral Imaging Carbon Observatory installed on China's Tiangong Space Station. The event also includes the 7th Hydrogen Economy Forum and a Public Day on 29 October with free admission.

The HKTDC, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, continues to promote Hong Kong as a two-way global investment and business hub through international exhibitions and other initiatives.
