Dr. Sakr's career spans more than four decades in pathology, medical education, and cancer research. After completing his medical training at the University of Damascus in Syria, he pursued postgraduate education in the United States, including an Anatomic Pathology residency and a Surgical Pathology fellowship. He joined Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1990 and served as Chairman of its Department of Pathology from 2008 to 2022. In 2022, he became Dean of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. His research has focused extensively on prostate cancer, particularly racial disparities affecting African American men. He has contributed to more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and has supported advances in pathology, cancer research, and medical education through teaching, mentorship, and institutional leadership.
