Dr. Valinda Nwadike, a physician, educator, and maternal health advocate, brings extensive experience in high-risk obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, and telehealth innovation to the initiative. Her work includes leading the Southern Maryland Black Maternal Telehealth Alliance, which expands access to prenatal and postpartum care. Through this scholarship, she seeks to encourage students to think critically about the social, geographic, and economic factors that influence patient outcomes.
To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an accredited U.S. undergraduate program and pursuing a healthcare-related career, such as pre-med, pre-PA, nursing, pre-dental, or public health with clinical intent. The application requires an original essay of 600–800 words responding to a prompt that asks students to draw on their experiences with health disparities and explain how future medical professionals can use education, technology, or community partnerships to close gaps in care. The evaluation criteria include personal insight, feasibility of proposed solutions, alignment with Dr. Nwadike's mission, and writing quality.
