Dr. Hamid Alam Scholarship Opens to Pre-Med Undergraduates Nationwide

Hamid Alam MD, a board-certified physician in Diagnostic Radiology and Neuroradiology, has announced that the Dr. Hamid Alam Scholarship for Future Doctors is accepting applications from undergraduate students nationwide who plan to become physicians or medical professionals. The one-time $1,000 scholarship is open to eligible students in any U.S. city or state and is designed to support learners early in their path toward medicine, according to the announcement.

The scholarship uses a written essay for selection. Applicants must explain what becoming a doctor means to them and how they hope their future careers will improve the lives of others. Reviewers look for clear purpose, personal reflection, compassion, and a realistic vision for contributing to healthcare and the community. The essay prompt asks: “What does becoming a doctor mean to you, and how do you hope your future career will improve the lives of others?” Essays should describe why the applicant wants to pursue medicine, which experiences or values have shaped that goal, and what kind of doctor the applicant hopes to become. Personal experience and vision carry more weight than a list of academic achievements.

Dr. Hamid Alam’s career includes clinical practice, service as a director of Neuroradiology, mentorship of radiology residents, and a faculty role as Assistant Professor of Clinical Imaging. Through this scholarship, he extends that commitment to medical education by recognizing a student who shows early dedication to patient care. “Medicine depends on capable, compassionate people entering the profession,” says Hamid Alam MD. “This scholarship recognizes an undergraduate student who is thinking seriously about the responsibilities of being a doctor.”

Eligibility criteria require applicants to be undergraduate students at the time of application, plan to pursue a career as a physician or medical professional, be enrolled in or preparing for a college or university program, demonstrate a strong interest in healthcare, medicine, or patient care, and show academic commitment, personal responsibility, and a desire to help others. The application process involves reviewing the criteria, writing and proofreading the essay, and emailing the completed application to apply@drhamidalamscholarship.com. Full details are available at the scholarship website.

The scholarship provides a one-time award of $1,000 to one recipient to support eligible education-related expenses. The application deadline is May 15, 2027, and the winner will be announced on June 15, 2027. After the deadline, eligible applications enter an essay-based selection process. Reviewers consider the strength of each response, commitment to medicine, personal values, and potential to make a positive contribution to healthcare.

Educators, advisors, and family members are encouraged to share the scholarship with students preparing for medical careers. Hamid Alam MD notes that financial support at the undergraduate stage helps students stay focused on their academic and professional goals. The scholarship program, founded in 2026, aims to encourage compassionate, service-minded future physicians and to recognize students who show a clear commitment to improving patient care.
