Colorado Judicial Institute to Host Forum on AI's Impact on Legal Community

The Colorado Judicial Institute (CJI), the state's only independent, nonpartisan nonprofit focused on promoting excellence and public trust in Colorado's courts, announced it will host a Thought Leadership Forum on the influence of artificial intelligence in the legal community. The forum, titled "AI Today: What the Legal Community Needs to Know Right Now," is scheduled for November 6, 2025, and will bring together judges and legal experts to discuss AI's impact on courtroom ethics, law firm innovation, and the practice of law.

"AI is no longer a future trend. It's here now, and it's already testing the boundaries of ethics, professionalism, and trust in our courts," said CJI Board Chair Thor Nelson. "This forum will provide Colorado's legal community with the insights needed to navigate the risks and seize the opportunities that AI presents." The event will take place at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Denver, with registration and networking from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by the forum from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m.

Panelists include Hon. Lino Lipinsky of the Colorado Court of Appeals, who will discuss ethics rules and AI, focusing on how the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct govern attorneys' use of generative AI and real-world cases of misuse. Hon. Maritza Dominguez Braswell of the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado will examine AI's societal and legal impacts, including bias, accuracy, and the boundaries of AI capability. Katina Banks, Esq., of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, will explore how law firms are integrating AI into client service and the frameworks needed for responsible adoption.

The forum offers 2 CLE credits (0.8 ethics, 1.2 general). Registration is $100 for CJI members and $125 for non-members. Attendees can register via CJI's website at https://bit.ly/CJI-TLF-2025. Sponsors include Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Maverick Public Relations.

This event underscores the urgent need for the legal community to address AI's implications, as courts and law firms grapple with issues of bias, accuracy, and ethical boundaries. By convening experts and practitioners, CJI aims to equip Colorado's legal professionals with the knowledge to harness AI's benefits while mitigating its risks.
