Champ Tours, a California-based group travel company founded by Dan Champ, has announced the Grand Slam Heritage Tour, a new baseball-themed travel experience designed for members of the Sun City Roseville Travel Club. Scheduled for May 13–19, 2027, the seven-day tour will take participants through New York City, Cooperstown, and Boston, combining Major League Baseball games, historic ballpark tours, and visits to iconic cultural destinations. The announcement signals another expansion of Champ Tours' offerings for active senior travelers and underscores the growing appeal of themed group travel that caters to specific interests.
The tour builds on a previous collaboration between Champ Tours and the Sun City Roseville Travel Club, which included a Broadway-themed trip to New York City for 23 travelers, three of whom were 86. That success demonstrated the potential for developing additional trips around the interests of older adults. "One of the things I've learned from organizing group travel is that people have very different interests, regardless of their age," Champ said. "Some travelers love theater, others enjoy history, and some have followed baseball for most of their lives." The new baseball itinerary reflects that insight, offering a distinct experience while strengthening an already successful partnership.
The Grand Slam Heritage Tour will begin in New York City with guided sightseeing and a New York Yankees game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Yankee Stadium. The group will then travel to Cooperstown, home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, where travelers can explore exhibits documenting the players, teams, and moments that have shaped professional baseball. An overnight stay at the historic Otesaga Resort Hotel is also included. From there, the tour continues to Boston for a Boston Red Sox game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at Fenway Park, the oldest active Major League Baseball ballpark, followed by a behind-the-scenes stadium tour. Additional Boston activities include a visit to Quincy Market and a Boston Duck Tour.
Upon returning to New York City, participants will take an official behind-the-scenes tour of Yankee Stadium, including Monument Park and displays celebrating the team's championship history. Optional evening activities include a Broadway performance or a New York Mets game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citi Field. The final day offers additional sightseeing before the group returns to California. The itinerary is designed to balance baseball with broader cultural exploration, giving travelers a deeper sense of the cities' history and character.
Champ, who has spent more than two decades coordinating educational and cultural group travel, founded Champ Tours in 2024 to continue developing experiences for groups with different interests and needs. He emphasized that planning such a trip involves far more than securing tickets. "We have to consider transportation between cities, hotel locations, the timing of games and tours, and how much activity makes sense in a single day," he said. "The goal is to create an experience where travelers can enjoy the destinations without having to manage all those arrangements themselves." The tour includes round-trip air transportation, deluxe motorcoach transfers, hotel accommodations, scheduled sightseeing, baseball experiences, and meals as outlined.
Pricing for the Grand Slam Heritage Tour begins at $4,599 per person for double occupancy and $4,999 for single occupancy. A $300 non-refundable deposit is required by December 1, 2026, with the remaining balance payable through monthly installments and final payment due March 14, 2027. Champ Tours will present the itinerary to Sun City Roseville Travel Club members on October 26, 2026.
