The recent announcement that Argentine coach Bruno Stretti has taken the helm as head coach of the Smatt Tennis Academy (All Florida Tennis LLC) at the Golden Isles Tennis Center in Hallandale Beach signals a significant shift in South Florida's tennis ecosystem. Stretti's arrival brings a rare combination of Grand Slam experience, academic rigor, and a business-oriented development model that could reshape how elite tennis is taught and commercialized in the region.
Stretti's credentials are formidable. He has coached Paula Ormaechea, a former world No. 59 and Argentina's top-ranked player, at major events including Roland Garros and the US Open. He has also worked with Tomás Martín Etcheverry, Argentina's top male ATP player who reached world No. 25. His official Grand Slam debut as a coach came at Roland Garros in 2024, followed by the US Open in 2025. This direct experience at the sport's highest levels is precisely what sets him apart and what the Smatt Tennis Academy hopes will attract top talent to its facility, which features four clay courts, six hard courts, and recreational areas.
The implications for South Florida extend beyond the tennis court. By establishing a high-performance program led by a coach with international pedigree, the academy is positioned to draw players from across the Americas, generating economic activity and reinforcing the region's status as a hub for elite sports. As reported in Read the full report in Hispanic Target Magazine, Stretti's model emphasizes discipline, resilience, and entrepreneurial vision, aiming to create jobs and energize Florida's sports market.
Stretti's journey from Patagonia to the world stage is a testament to perseverance. Growing up in Trelew, he honed his skills on hard courts and competed for over six years in junior and professional tournaments. His early move to Buenos Aires at 14 broadened his horizons, and he later returned to transform the local tennis scene. As a pillar of the Trelew Tennis Club's high-performance program, he coached Estanislao Lassaga to his first ATP doubles point and an ITF title, and was instrumental in bringing international competitions like the M25 and W15 to Patagonia. This ability to generate economic and sporting impact on a global scale is now being applied to Hallandale Beach.
Beyond coaching, Stretti holds a Level B certification from the Global Professional Tennis Coach Association (GPTCA) and is a certified Physical Education Teacher. His versatility includes serving as a physical trainer for Argentina's national lacrosse team at the 2018 World Championship in Israel. This multidisciplinary background informs his holistic approach to athlete development, which he describes as helping shape individuals and build confidence beyond athletic results.
For the Hispanic community in the United States, Stretti's success story is emblematic of the exceptional contributions that top Hispanic figures make to the country's cultural and economic fabric. His leadership at the Smatt Tennis Academy not only elevates the level of tennis in South Florida but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring athletes and coaches.
