Boerne, Texas, has been named a finalist in Hallmark Channel's 2026 Merriest Christmas Town contest, placing it among 25 communities nationwide and making it the only Texas community in this year's lineup. The recognition underscores what locals and visitors have long known: Boerne's holiday season, with its small-town charm and festive events, transforms the historic Hill Country Mile into a scene straight out of a Christmas movie. Voting is open now through Friday, September 4, with participants able to cast one vote per day for Boerne at Hallmark Channel's contest page.
Mayor Frank Ritchie attributes the town's holiday reputation to its people. "At the center of the celebration are the people who are part of our wonderful community," he said. "That sense of community is what has helped Boerne build a reputation as a Texas Hill Country destination throughout the holiday season." This community spirit is evident in events like Dickens on Main, which takes over the Hill Country Mile during Thanksgiving weekend with live entertainment, holiday activities, and Victorian-themed characters and decorations.
Visit Boerne Marketing Specialist Tori Bellos emphasized the collaborative nature of the town's Christmas offerings. "What makes Christmas in Boerne so special is that it's truly a community effort," she said. "Our role is to help visitors discover everything that makes Boerne unique while making sure our local businesses have the information and resources they need to welcome them." The festivities continue with Weihnachts Weekend, the annual nighttime Weihnachts Parade, and Kinder Fest, along with holiday markets and shopping events throughout December.
Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Kim Blohm noted that the town's selection is about more than decorations. "It is no mystery, a key component of the community's Christmas celebration is the local businesses, volunteers, organizations and residents who help bring the season to life each year," she said. "Our small business owners welcome visitors, neighbors share longtime traditions and families gather along the Hill Country Mile to create the kind of personal, small-town Christmas experience that has become synonymous with Boerne."
