New York City bodegas are set to become community media hubs with the launch of Bodegas TV, a Smart TV streaming network designed specifically for neighborhood stores. Announced Wednesday, the platform combines local news, entertainment programming, and community-driven advertising on screens installed inside bodegas, aiming to reach 500 stores by 2026 and expand to 2,000 within three years.
Bodegas TV leverages AI-powered content production alongside local storytelling to create a continuous streaming channel for in-store viewing. The programming mix consists of 50% local news content, including breaking local news, community stories, and updates relevant to neighborhood residents, produced by local reporters and creators. The remaining 50% is entertainment programming, featuring short-form entertainment, AI-generated content, micro-dramas, and cultural programming. This combination aims to provide engaging content for customers while supporting local journalism.
For bodega owners, the system is designed to be hands-off. Hardware installation is provided at no cost, and the store owners participate in a revenue-sharing model from programmatic and direct-sold local advertising. All installation, technical maintenance, and ongoing support are handled by the Bodegas TV team, allowing owners to generate passive income without operational work.
The platform also creates opportunities for local reporters and creators to produce content that reaches audiences directly inside their communities. By combining AI-assisted production tools with local journalism, Bodegas TV reduces the cost of producing and distributing video news, creating a scalable model for community-driven storytelling.
Bodegas TV's rollout begins in New York City bodegas, with a long-term goal of reaching 2,000 stores across the region. Each participating store becomes part of a network delivering hyperlocal content, community news, and culturally relevant entertainment. For more information, visit the Bodegas TV website.
