BarnPilot Unveils Watcher and Sentinel to Advance Horse Monitoring

BarnPilot, an equestrian technology company based in Wellington, Florida, has announced the development of the Watcher system and Sentinel program, designed to integrate horse monitoring into its broader platform. The move aims to address the fragmentation of information that horse owners and riders face daily, as detailed in a recent press release.

Scott Morvay, founder and principal developer of BarnPilot, emphasized that the goal is not to create another standalone app but to build a connected ecosystem. "I did not set out to build another app with a list of horse profiles," Morvay said. "I spent several years inside show jumping and experienced the same pain points riders and owners deal with every day. The schedule, records, ride, camera, and people responsible for the horse were all separated. I turned those problems into BarnPilot and kept building."

The monitoring experience begins with Camera Focus, a view for supported fixed barn cameras, allowing owners to check live feeds, monitor status, and review alerts without leaving the platform that holds the horse's schedule and records. The Watcher system provides ongoing awareness through Equine Watcher, focused on horse-specific activities, and Farm Watch, which monitors broader barn activity. Sentinel, on the other hand, allows users to define a specific visible condition to monitor for a 24-hour session, with alerts triggered when the camera detects a match.

Morvay clarified the system's capabilities: "Watcher is the ongoing watch; Sentinel is the focused watch. With Sentinel, the owner defines the condition that matters in their own words. The system is not asked to make a medical judgment. It is asked to help watch for something specific and visible." The monitoring features rely on motion-triggered still images and are informational, not diagnostic, with disclaimers that they do not replace in-person observation or veterinary care.

The significance of Watcher and Sentinel lies in their integration with BarnPilot's existing equestrian command center. The platform already includes horse-centered records, ride tracking with GPS and Loop Back, and BarnPilot Navigator for horse-specific navigation. Additionally, tools like Horse Prospects assist in organizing horse searches, and AI-assisted features help review records and bills. The app supports multiple languages and offers live voice translation to facilitate communication among diverse barn staff.

Wellington, Florida, serves as a critical testing ground for BarnPilot due to its dense equestrian community. "Wellington makes the need visible," Morvay said. "This sport runs on skilled people, but too often those people are forced to work around fragmented technology. BarnPilot is my effort to build the infrastructure around them and around the horse." Local Navigator coverage includes equestrian destinations in Wellington, and guided onboarding is available for supported cameras in the area.

Looking forward, BarnPilot is developing an equine-specific camera detection model and purpose-built camera hardware, with the long-term goal of designing monitoring systems around horses from the start. A desktop experience is also in development. These projects are not yet available but signal the company's direction toward comprehensive equestrian infrastructure.

"The future of horse monitoring is not just another camera on a stall wall," Morvay said. "It is a connected system that helps the right person see the right thing, with the horse's wider context close at hand. That is what we are building."
