Austin Law Firm Secures $7.5 Million Settlement in Delivery Crash Case After Uncovering Withheld Evidence

A $7.5 million settlement secured by an Austin personal injury law firm on behalf of a client seriously injured in a May 2025 highway collision with a vehicle operated by one of the nation's largest delivery companies highlights the critical importance of independent investigation in commercial vehicle accidents, particularly when large corporations control electronic evidence that may never reach injured motorists or authorities.

The crash was caused by a distracted delivery driver who missed a highway turn and abruptly braked, leading to a serious collision. For more than a year, the delivery company and its insurer maintained that the injured client was responsible. The firm, Joe Lopez Law, P.C., through its El Joe Me Ayudó | Personal Injury Network brand, worked in conjunction with the Falcon Law Group PLLC to challenge that narrative.

The legal teams conducted a thorough investigation, collecting electronic evidence and deposing key witnesses. A pivotal moment came during the deposition of the investigating police officer. Falcon Law's Michael Darling showed the officer video footage and other evidence that the delivery company had not provided during the original crash investigation. After reviewing the previously unavailable evidence, the officer changed his opinion regarding responsibility for the collision.

"What makes this case particularly troubling is that the company had footage that could have helped explain what happened from the very beginning," said Joe Lopez, founder of Joe Lopez Law. "Instead, our client spent more than a year being blamed for a crash. When we finally put that evidence in front of the investigating officer, even he changed his opinion about who was responsible."

The case underscores a broader problem: commercial delivery vehicles can generate extensive electronic information, including onboard camera footage, vehicle tracking data, driver activity records and other information that may help establish how a collision occurred. Yet that evidence often remains exclusively in the hands of the company and its insurers, unavailable to injured motorists or investigating authorities unless attorneys aggressively pursue it through litigation.

"When you're going up against a billion-dollar company, you cannot simply accept its version of events," Lopez said. "You have to dig into the evidence, question the witnesses and be prepared to challenge the narrative. That's what we did, and ultimately we secured a $7.5 million settlement for our client."

The settlement conclusively resolves the client's injury claims from the collision. For injured individuals and their families, the outcome demonstrates that early and independent legal investigation can uncover critical evidence that changes the course of a case, especially when a corporate defendant has a strong incentive to control the flow of information.
