The Atlanta Community Food Bank has announced the return of its annual Hunger Walk Run, scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2026, from Noon to 4 pm at The Home Depot Backyard in Atlanta. Now in its 42nd year, the event benefits the Food Bank and five other local hunger relief organizations. With food insecurity at levels not seen since the pandemic, organizers emphasize the critical need for community support.
Participants can choose between an in-person 5K or a virtual option, allowing involvement from anywhere. Registration and donation opportunities are now open. Each registered walker helps provide 90 meals, while each runner contributes 120 meals for neighbors in need. Since its inception in 1984, the Hunger Walk Run has raised over $16 million, enough to supply more than 48 million meals.
Kyle Waide, President & CEO of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, stated, "Hunger Walk Run is a highly anticipated event that rallies thousands from our community to take steps toward fighting hunger. Every person who participates, whether on-site or virtually, helps make a difference." The Food Bank is currently facing the highest demand for food assistance since the pandemic, making this year's event particularly vital.
The family-friendly event includes music, food vendors, warm-ups, and a dedicated Kids Zone with bounce houses, slides, and interactive learning opportunities. It will take place rain or shine. For those unable to attend in person, the virtual Hunger Walk Run allows participation anytime, anywhere—walking in neighborhoods, on treadmills, or even spinning on bikes. Participants are encouraged to share their involvement on social media by tagging @ACFB and using the hashtag #HWR2026.
Online registration is available through 12 pm on Friday, March 13, with fees set at $30 for walkers, $40 for runners, $25 for virtual participants who pick up their shirts, and $32 for virtual participants who want shirts mailed. Walk-up registration will be available for an additional $5 per entry type.
