Angkor Resources Advances Cambodia's First Onshore Oil Drilling with 2027 Plan

Angkor Resources Corp. has moved a step closer to drilling Cambodia's first onshore oil and gas wells after its energy subsidiary, EnerCam Resources Co., Ltd., presented its proposed 2027 work program to the Royal Government of Cambodia. The presentation took place at a Joint Review Committee meeting on October 6, 2026, at the Ministry of Mines and Energy in Phnom Penh, as required twice yearly under EnerCam's Production Sharing Contract. The meeting is significant because it marks the transition from years of geological and geophysical work to preparation for actual drilling, with the North Bokor well planned as the first target.

EnerCam's President, Mike Weeks, said the ministry's feedback was positive and that the questions were appropriate for a project nearing the drill bit. "We're now updating the 2027 budget and the 2026 actuals, so the Ministry has the full picture as we move to the tender and to drilling Cambodia's first onshore wells," Weeks said. The company also announced three key approvals received in 2026: the CSR Program approved on May 13, the Health, Safety and Environment Manual approved on August 24, and the drilling Environmental Impact Assessment approved by the Ministry of Environment on September 15. These approvals clear major regulatory hurdles for the drilling phase.

The 2026 work program results presented to the committee included oil seep analyses consistent with a thermogenic source, surface rock samples indicating an early to peak oil generation window, and field studies that identified quartz arenite sandstones with 13–14% porosity. On the geophysics side, EnerCam completed interpretation of key unconformity surfaces and converted seismic sections to depth, selecting drilling locations within closure and intersecting the strongest seismic amplitudes. The company also finalized engineering designs for drilling, completion, stimulation, and testing, with each well designed to flow-test for four weeks followed by a 12-week pressure build-up to definitively assess commerciality. A figure showing EnerCam presenting its drilling and testing procedures to the Block VIII Joint Review Committee was released alongside the announcement.

The proposed 2027 program, which covers Exploration Stage 1 – Year 3, includes preparing the drilling tender document for government review, bid selection in early 2027, drill pad construction, and mobilization of rig and services. EnerCam also plans to secure import permits for downhole perforating charges and radioactive sources used in well logging, and to drill the North Bokor well, which has a mean area of 100 square kilometers, followed by a second well. A field program of seep and source-rock sampling will further test the petroleum system, and additional seismic data from adjacent lines will be processed to improve coverage over the South and Central Bokor locations.

The implications are substantial: Cambodia imports 100% of its hydrocarbon-based energy products, so a domestic discovery would be a strategic and economic milestone. Angkor Resources, through its Cambodian energy subsidiary, is positioning itself as a pioneer in the country's onshore oil and gas sector. The company's mineral subsidiary also holds two exploration licenses for copper and gold.
