Andina Copper Reports Near-Surface Porphyry Mineralization at Cobrasco Project

Andina Copper Corporation (TSX-V: ANDC | FSE: FIR | OTCQB: PMMCF) has reported new drill results from the Cobrasco Project in Choco, Colombia, confirming the northwest extension of the Cobrasco Central copper-molybdenum porphyry system. Drillhole CDH008, completed to a depth of 652.25 meters, intersected near-surface mineralization beginning at approximately 52 meters downhole, returning 272 meters grading 0.50% copper, 75 ppm molybdenum, and 1.92 g/t silver. This interval includes a higher-grade section of 152 meters at 0.67% copper, 68 ppm molybdenum, and 1.90 g/t silver from 54 meters downhole.

The drillhole was collared from the same platform as previous holes CDH006 and CDH007, drilled due north to test the northern continuity of the shallow mineralized zone. The results further expand the known mineralization footprint, which now extends approximately 1,100 meters along strike and 550 meters laterally. Mineralization remains open in all directions, with additional step-out holes underway. Two subsequent drillholes, CDH009 and CDH010, have been completed from the same platform; assays are pending for CDH009, while drilling of CDH010 is in progress. Visual logging indicates sulphide mineralization consistent with the broader Cobrasco Central system.

Andina Copper’s President and CEO Joseph van den Elsen stated, “We continue to systematically advance a wide-spaced scout drilling programme, actively testing the limits of the Cobrasco system with wide fans of significant step-out drillholes. The system continues to grow with each successive drillhole, with the mineralization footprint already covering an area of ~1,100m x 550m, and results from CDH009 and CDH010 expected to further extend. Surface geochemistry and field observations strongly suggest that the mineralization continues to the north and northwest and indeed remains open in all directions. Preparations are being made for the mobilization of a second diamond drilling rig to support the next phase of definition drilling of Cobrasco Central and new porphyry centers still to be tested.”

Geologically, CDH008 intersected a leached cap with intense supergene alteration over intermineral rhyolite porphyry. Beneath the leached zone, a 30-meter interval containing chalcocite coating hypogene sulphides indicates incipient secondary copper enrichment. The strongest mineralization is associated with potassic and sericite-altered magmatic-hydrothermal breccias related to intermineral rhyolite porphyry intrusions. Higher copper-molybdenum grades occur where chalcopyrite fills matrix and cross-cutting veinlets, overprinting earlier molybdenite. Bornite, observed locally rimming chalcopyrite, may indicate a later higher-sulphidation event.
