The American Heart Association has launched a new professional certification program, Digital Health in Cardiac Care, designed to help healthcare providers effectively integrate digital tools into cardiac care. As telehealth and remote monitoring become more prevalent, this certification aims to ensure quality care by equipping clinicians with the skills to use wearable devices, smartphone apps, and telehealth platforms safely and effectively.
The certification, part of the Association's Certified Professional by the American Heart Association (CPAHA) portfolio, is the fourth individual certification offering, joining existing programs in telehealth, telehealth stroke, and tobacco treatment. It is offered by the American Heart Association Center for Telehealth® and is designed to standardize training and validate expertise in technology-enabled clinical settings.
“The American Heart Association is committed to ensuring that quality standards for digital health technology are clear, trusted and embraced by health care providers,” said Lee H. Schwamm, M.D., FAHA, volunteer member of the American Heart Association Center for Telehealth Expert Panel and senior vice president and chief digital health officer of Yale New Haven Health. “This certification keeps individuals at the heart of care helping to boost patient engagement while empowering providers and wellness professionals to manage chronic conditions more effectively through digital tools.”
The certification process includes digital health literacy training, evidence-based online education combining research and hands-on experiences, and assessment via live remote-proctoring. Certificates are valid for three years and can be displayed for professional promotion. Enrollment is open to healthcare professionals with clinical or administrative backgrounds, as well as health and wellness specialists using digital tools to monitor patients.
Digital health in cardiac care refers to the use of technology such as wearable devices, smartphone apps, and remote monitoring systems to manage heart conditions outside traditional clinical settings. The certification aims to improve patient engagement and outcomes by delivering continuous data to patients and care teams.
From now through December 31, customers who purchase the Digital Health in Cardiac Care Certification and Coursework Bundle can receive an additional Telehealth Certification and Coursework Bundle at no extra cost ($519 value) by using the code TELEBOGO at checkout. The Association plans to launch a stroke coordinator certification later this year.
