ADAP Advocacy Airs Commercial Highlighting Declining 'Charity Care' Among 340B-Eligible Hospitals

ADAP Advocacy, as part of its 340B Project, aired a commercial today calling for reforms to the 340B Drug Pricing Program. The commercial highlights declining charity care among 340B-eligible hospitals, which disproportionately impacts minority communities, and asks: 'Is the 340B Drug Pricing Program the Next "Too Big to Fail"?'

Brandon M. Macsata, CEO of ADAP Advocacy, stated: 'A hallmark of the modern-day 340B Program is its design for hospitals to provide free care and financial aid to poor patients, also known as charity care. Drug manufacturers offer medications to hospitals at reduced rates so that they, in turn, can serve more low-income patients—but that isn't happening because these hospital systems are pocketing the money. A recent report shows that 69% of 340B disproportionate share hospitals offer charity care at a rate below the national average.'

The commercial is part of the '340B Too Big To Fail' national advocacy campaign, which will run through the end of the year. The campaign highlights hospitals' declining charity care, rising healthcare executive compensation, and exploding patient medical debt, among other issues. ADAP Advocacy's interactive map has elevated these trends.
